It is an idea whose time has come.  It was done, I believe, in other cities like Baltimore, Maryland or Boston, Mass. and it has been very successful. I'm talking about a full-service restaurant with all the bells and whistles and all the greatest food--disregarding pork and beef because they are dangerous to human health due to pesticide levels and problems in raising cattle on a large scale].This--a full-service restaurant that will provide food for disenfranchised workers, poor people and especially the Homeless at a cost of whatever they can afford--including only one cent if that is all they have, or even nothing.  If they want to volunteer sometime in the kitchen they can be trained to do so, if they have such abilities or potential abilities.  They should NOT be excluded from having a meal if they have no such stability, time or talents. [Remember, just surviving is a full-time job if you have little or no money and have to find shelter, food, a place to wash and clothing each and every day.] That goes for anywhere in North America and much of the rest of the world.

My vision, and I have written about this several times before, is to have good, wholesome, inexpensive food that feeds into our tendency to be healthy and of Positive Spirit.  Food that can give the human body strength, stamina, an ability to do for ourselves--as the Black Muslims say--and feed into the human brain and the human mind in a Way that will help all those attending move into a New Day and look at their New Day with a Positive Spirit and a positive attitude.  We as Black People and the left out can achieve anything we want to if we set our minds to it and are willing to work for it. But such a place as the Wooden Spoon will help our entire Nation and World and ALL its’ people, not only Black People.

I'm talking about fresh organic fruits and fresh organic vegetables, fresh farm-raised chicken and fresh fish that is cooked to perfection--tasty, well-seasoned and well-spiced, and scrumptious. We are bringing together the different aspects of the Progressive forces and progressive restaurants in Philadelphia to make this a reality for the entire city.  We will be under-written by people who have a little more money and an ability to pay, paying a little more for their meal than the rest of us, because we might not be able to pay at all. [Volunteer labor can serve temporarily as our meal ticket as we continue to seek and find and become more trained to find appropriate work and we will be able to hire people full time or part time from the volunteer staff also.].  We will also be getting grants and money from other generous private sources such as The Ford Foundation; The Paul Newman Foundation; The Robert F. Kennedy Foundation; The Enough Project; The Russell Simmons Foundation; Colin Powell's & His Wife's Foundation; The Danny Glover Foundation; The Michael Jordan Foundation; The Tyler Perry Foundation; The Will Smith and Jada Pinket-Smith Foundation; Charles Barkley's Foundation;  Oprah Winfrey’s Foundation; Several Black Banks; and The Black Millionaire's Network.  These organizations and other wealthy individuals connected to them will be contacted to enlist their on-going support. We will also contact people in public office to ask if they can refer us to people with funds and money to make this a reality and not just a dream in a few People's minds. Management will be shared and the utmost care will be taken to keep everything above board, open, legal, well-managed and in an appropriate, up-beat and positive frame of thought. Good conduct will and is a must. [We plan to have medical and mental health staff on hand to help Homeless People who might well have some adjusting to do in being around other people outside of their community.]   We will seek grants and private financing to maintain accountants, insurance and adequate paid staff as needed.

Why are we doing this? First of all, we have to admit that it is NOT a new concept.  Most of us Ole Heads remember the gracious Father Devin & His wife and His places to eat--and His Hotels--that provided a delicious dinner for 25 cents back in the early 1960's.  He was a Black religious leader, a Pastor, who cared about people who didn't have much, which isn't very popular right now.  We now, on October 7th, 2014, Tuesday, live in a world and a city that is full of citizens who are focused on their own issues and their own finances even as the world economy continues to recover--but this picture is changing and people are beginning to open up and be more caring and concerned about the poor and the formerly left out.  We should always have room in our hearts for others, because one day, we may need someone else to have room in their heart for us.

Another reason we are doing this is because disenfranchised people and even Black people of means are treated like the last post on the totem pole--not given respect, honor, dignity or the slightest of kindnesses when the Bible tells us we as Christians should be treating all People with much kindness, respect and dignity.  We read all the deep religious books, but don't really take their messages to heart. [There are great books of a great many quotes from the Native American community that talk of respect for mankind, nature and having a LOVing nature. I suggest we all read some of these as well. I will do some research and look some of the up. ]  If we read what Jesus said, there would be no Way we could treat each other with such disgrace, and disrespect.  Things are changing though.    Something is very wrong when a picture doesn't reflect the best in the world also.. I don't have to go back 230 years and talk about slavery, I don't have to talk about the racism and hatred of Jim Crow in the ole South or How many Black people were killed during the Civil Rights era, I can look at what is happening right now, or I can choose to discover more positive things happening to poor and Black people.  The former problem of our inability as Black People to deal with our addictions and begin a willing healing process is becoming less of a problem. We are a special People--Blessed by GOD--and we are beginning to see how to effectively help ourselves.   The inability of so many Black leaders to lead in the correct and positive directions that truly lead to achievement, accomplishment, honor, dignity, Grace, our youth's Grace and Honor, and our ability to make the money we need to sustain ourselves is becoming less of a problem as we keep our Heads to the Sky and look on the brighter side of life. Our glasses are more than half full and the full line is being reached.  We are full of LOVe, Hope, Charity for ourselves and each other, full of GOD's wisdom and full of hope for the future.  Yes, I'm talking about us helping us and us moving forward towards a bright and better day.  But I'm also talking about us taking proper responsibility for ourselves and our actions.

I made a Big Pot of chili for myself a few weeks ago--full of string beans, black beans, onions, squash, scullions, shallots, tomato sauce, low sodium vegetable broth, garlic, spices like curry powder, cumin, and tamarack--it lasted for a good while and was very tasty & WELL-SPICED.  What I'm getting at is having the positive determination to turn things around and make the positive changes we need to make among ourselves, our religious leaders and our civic and business leaders to turn our ship around and make our vision a more positive one. It CAN be done.  It is BEING done!!!  This is part of the whole reason for the restaurant--to treat people who have had it up to here concerning systemic and on-going unemployment , foreclosure and other hardships, treat these People with some LOVe, respect, Honor and decency--not cast them aside like yesterday's ole worn out shoe or an ole worthless newspaper.

So now you see why I do my work and advocate for the disenfranchised and Homeless of ALL races--especially Black People, and will continue to do so.  This letter will have to sit here for a few days and I will have to take some of the heat out of it, but not the steam.  I ask you for help in directly communicating to Black Sisters and Black Brothers who can help this restaurant become a reality.

Call me and send me your contact information if you want this to happen. This restaurant will also borrow from a few other restaurants in Philadelphia to take food that is offered that is not moldy or going bad, but good food that is fresh, but left over [or including somewhat older ingredients.].  I want to make it a city-wide project that brings about a whole new Way of treating disenfranchised people and realizing: ``there but for the Grace of GOD go I.''

It will also be an optimum opportunity for the entire City of Philadelphia to resolve an on-going problem and start to look at ALL Philadelphian's as an asset not a liability even if they don't have work, are in school or are not financially stable.   We can turn things around and have a better attitude about our City, the Mayor, the Unions and the Business Community by working together on this project and many others like it.  I look forward to hearing from you. A New Look at Education for US Black Folk

This is rocket science, but it is also music appreciation, playing that funny triangle Publications Thing [yes Ambassador Annenberg & TV Guide are dead.]    it is also theatre; acting; script-writing; teaching; & other creative arts; gymnastics [so important for our males to vent pent-up energy that might otherwise explode negatively out in our Black community]; bicycle riding [Thank you M.C.R.]; woodshop; industrial engenering; voice & singing; costume design; make-up artistry; Tap & Jazz dance; chorography. What I'm getting at s this: we can keep badgering the mostly Jewish-led and White-led and moderate, pull-the-line Black school district and keep begging for money and wasting our time getting emotional and being dramatic--or we can , as real Black People, take our children and get some real teachers who have better expectations of our Black children and teach them about their better selves--This means me and you as Black parents and supporters of Black Parents, Black youth & Black education. A good teacher doesn't need a computer & an expensive classroom and an expensive salary to teach properly

Mankind will not only survive, but also thrive in a good, generous and positive Way.  And Soon. Help us work effectively together.  Work effectively, humbly & consistently towards the world’s Economic stability & the People’s freedom from emotional, Spiritual, political & economic bondage or economic degradation or economic exploitation. Help bring Decency, oh Lord, Peace, LOVe & Harmony to every breakfast Table, every lunch Table, every buffet Table, every snack Table and every dinner table in the world, or any other place where People congregate to eat food, partake of merriment and enjoy each other’s company…... Is this within ALL our grasps?  Yes!! Today and FOREVER!!!!! Utilize peacefulness, an end of hate, a gratifying smile, a friendly handshake, a hug & a kiss on the side of the face to bring forth effective Ways to expand on dignity, generosity & decency. This Way we can all enjoy the foods & gifts from the Table of Joy, the Table of humanity, the Table of Decency, the Table of LOVe & the Table of Bounty. Have no guilt and no fear as you work. Dear Former President Jimmy Carter & Former First Lady Rosalynn Carter:

It is with great Honor, Pride, Respect & Joy that I find time, once again, to sit & write you both. It is funny How when you really get to know People all the rough edges come out as do all the things about People that shock & surprise—Good & Bad. When I talk with People, Black People like myself, my age—I am 57—they act like I cursed them sometimes when I say Jimmy Carter was the best President we had in recent times. They call me—in their minds only because they don’t have the heart to say it to my face—they want to so bad to call me an Uncle Tom as they say ``Why of Course President Obama is the best President we have ever had!!’’ They fail to remember the religious & Spiritual convictions and religious & Spiritual dedication you both have and How this has shaped & molded your Human Rights & Freedom oriented political & ethical philosophy & views.   And the vital post-White-House work you have both done internationally to end World hunger, provide clean water and end worm [get name of worm] contamination and infestation throughout parts of Africa. This, as you well know, is only part of the great many achievements you have accomplished since your White House days. This justice oriented & balanced idea of decency, good will, fairness & or respect for human rights is what carried you both from Plains, Georgia to The White House successfully. Our country was just coming up for a breath of Fresh air after the terrible atrocities of the Watergate / Nixon years when you both were rightfully given a great deal of credit for leading us out of a great fog.  This Nixon / Watergate fog almost destroyed our Spirit & our will as a Nation. We must continue to excel financially & exercise our God-given & Constitutional rights as the World’s leading & possibly most powerful democracy.  We certainly have some calluses in our record as a Nation, but right now, and this may change, I don’t want to live anywhere else in the world but in the United States.

Once again I am afraid our Nation is beset with internal & external scoundrels who would do us in for one reason or another. I’m afraid many of these scoundrels have sat or are sitting in high office and want to ambitiously use bombs in the place of good solid diplomacy, Peace Talks and the hard work at home & around the world of seeing Peaceful co-existence flourish, sustainability flourish & economic sharing flourish. The times we are living in are chock full of opportunities for a bright & Prosperous future and at the same time we have a great possibility of moving backwards & never really experiencing the fruit and seasons of our rich potential. This is why I am asking you, again, to step Way out of your Comfort Zone and in the Name of Anwar Sadat & Menachem [check spelling] Begin & the Camp David Accords that were reached with your help in 1978, I am asking you to do something unheard of for a sitting or former President. I asked you before and I am led by GOD to ask you again to Not ask, but tell the Navy to take the Precious name your LOVing Parents gave you off of that Nuclear Submarine which is part of the current U.S. arsenal!! I know doing such a thing will cause scorn & consternation among the military, the right wing & the pentagon—but with the private sector capitalizing so greatly from more war, death, hatred & misery I don’t know how you don’t take this Bold & Courageous step.

I really fear for our Nation and much of the World because of the conflicts in the Middle East and elsewhere.  I, for one, am tired of the Middle East getting so much ink and being such a bother when there are problems, such as in the Congo and Somalia that get little or no ink and when they do get covered by the national and international press they get the story so wrong. Well, you just would not believe it. I have written any number of celebrities and Progressive financial sources to get funding for my work and the businesses I want to start.  As you might know, I have an organization on paper called the Coalition for Peace, Freedom & Justice in the Middle East.  It has NOT been funded.  All I want to do is get People of everyday life more informed on the issues of the Middle east—regular Housewives, newspaper delivery boys [like I used to be], union workers, teachers, businessmen, hair dressers, actors, and comedians—I want them to be more informed and help their views to get to be part of the political process and actually become part of the policy-making process.  This organization –The Coalition for Peace, Freedom & Justice in the Middle East--would be a non-profit, 501c3 based in the United States, probably right here in Philadelphia, but would have members of many, many international communities and many foreign countries, as well as the more regular and traditional Americans I talked about earlier.  I am ashamed and appalled at what the United Nations is doing to cover up and ignore what needs to be a better more worldly and Progressive policy towards the Middle East coming from the United States, Israel and the United Nations. They simply rubber stamp, to often at least, what the Security Council wants—Russia, China and the United States—and drown out other voices of Progressive countries such as Cuba and counties that have had adversarial relations with the United Stated such as Iran and Venezuela.  These countries and many others, have legitimate gripes and concerns that are hardly ever listened to.  This is why the United States’ military missions in the Middle East are so dangerous and often so un-called for.  The People have NOT been heard. This is why I implore you to take your name off the military submarine and make a public statement with Rosalynn Carter for Peace. I have to admit I have NOT read your book on the Middle East that was so controversial: ``Palestine: Peace Not Apartheid’’.  I don’t read like I used to, but I know this book is important for ALL Americans to read... I must find out if it is available on Compact Disk because I will listen to a book as opposed to read it if I can.  That Way I can listen to it while I do household chores like cleaning the dishes and clean the kitchen floor. [I guess that is multi-tasking, which I am against, by the Way. I think people need to be less rushed and hurried especially now when everybody wants our time and money. People need to just slow down and take their time and listen to their inner voice of wisdom and the voice of GOD before they take rash and prudent actions that cannot be turned around..] This is exactly what I’m asking you to do. It is very, very important that you NOT feel forced or coerced by me or anyone else to make such a decision that is totally yours to make. I know we both want only the best for our nation and our North American citizens, no matter what their ethnic backgrounds are. Take a week and decide if you can go out on a limb and do what I have asked.  It will have a serious and positive impact on World issues, the Peace Process and make the everyday North American, who I’m trying to reach, sit up and say, ``Hay , wait a minute, if Former President Jimmy Carter  & His Wife Rosalynn are taking such drastic action there must be something I need to listen to here. Let me turn off ``Black-ish’’ for a while and read up on this particular issue, and maybe even start taking ALL the political issues more seriously. And NOT just for the current election cycle, but always!! ‘’

I could go on, but I won’t. I am sure you have more letters to read. I want you to know that you don’t have to mention my name if you take this action. I don’t need any credit for helping you see the validity in such an action. I know full well, because of your successes in the Middle East, [The Camp David Accords of 1978 and much of your other work on this issue] that you care about our world and the Peace efforts that go on.  I wanted to add that the Peace groups in Israel that do such great work and have done so for many, many years are often ignored by the major media as well.  This is a pity and a shame and very unfair.    I wish you and your wife Rosalynn Peace, Justice and much Prosperity as I also wish this for ALL humans on earth. I hate to see People suffer needlessly. I hate to hear about the torture that is actually being carried out by United States officials, even while the President denies it; and I hate to see People starve and have to go without nice homes when there is such a great amount of bounty and abundance in the world. Lastly, but by no means least, I really hate to see children suffer needlessly [their suffering is ALWAYS needless.].

Reason for Writing: New Ideas for Activism.

1} Ole methods are not working & are ineffective.

2} Let us try something else; a new success mode.

3} Let us Lift ALL Boats--financially, socially & spiritually.

4} Instead of Challenging the Ole Established order we Will find much more success when we take on a ``Let's Lift All Boats'' Philosophy and bring on change in a gradual fashion or manner while thinking of sharing with our neighbors. Sometimes this is not easy because sometimes issues are designed by the media and higher ups financially to pit different racial groups against others.  We must work at working with other people, and also within our racial and other groups we feel most comfortable with. 5} Think of Policies that make dollars and sense [cents] -- And Positive, reasonable change for ALL People, All Concerned.  Being GOD-Centered and LOVing ourselves is very important for me personally. It may NOT be a mode that works for you.

6} We have been wasting time banging and beating on Doors that will never open. Some minds are closed and will stay that way until GOD finds the proper tools to theoretically open them in a non-violent, LOVing, and timely Way. Meanwhile, We have to get on with the work of Revolution as we see fit to.

7} Find Ways to create our own opportunities; create jobs; make our sources of money and income to expand on opportunity, especially in so-called depressed or ``oppressed'' communities. We will be a whole lot better off creating opportunity ourselves than we will be fighting the ole guard and the ole establishment to get the forward motion we seek for our Revolutionary efforts.  

8} Cool Down criticism [ This is something I REALLY need to work at myself--and I mean in a BIG WAY!!!]; and find good in a few things our perceived enemies have where we can work together -- even only if we are in negotiations or short-term communications-- instead of arguing endlessly over philosophy, ideology & issues like traffic jams and grape jelly over orange marmalade--that will most likely never be solved to everyone's moral, ethical & Human Rights satisfaction. Let's offer more choices: like they need to at MCee Dees like a turkey burger and a veggie burger instead of just a beacon, double cheese burger with a stroke--there I go again!!!

9} Cool Tempers and Listen instead of talk endlessly.

10} Find Point Men and Point Women who can work with different groups, ethnic groups & different organizations TO MEND FENCES, BUILD BRIDGES AND KEEP LINES OF COMMUNICATION OPEN [THIS DOES NOT MEAN YOU ARE DISLOYAL TO YOUR PARTICULAR ETHNIC GROUP, RACE, SKIN-COLOR OR THE ORGANIZATION YOU ARE MOST LOYAL TO… IT IS VITAL IN DIFFICULT AND TRYING TIMES --EVEN THOUGH WE ARE MAKING ECONOMIC PROGRESS --  WHERE egos and tempers may be warmed easily, to keep communications open, keep in a positive Spirit and remember we are ALL really doing this work to create something decent, LOVing, and kind for the children of the world ...... In my case, especially Black Children.....

11} Talk, Talk, Talk; but keep a positive-thinking philosophy and a positive mind at the forefront of All work in the movement.

12} If you are willing -- allow children to interact along, within and among different lines of race and ethnicity-- especially Asian, African and Latin children.

13} Find cultural and artistic experiences that help expand mental, physical and social awareness & positive, wholesome, & Justice-Oriented interactions among those involved in The Revolution. 

14} Begin to Realize LOVing & Respecting Self is at the Root of Stability for Our People.

15} Do away with words like ``Struggle'' & ``Overcome'' & we find we have truly overcome the struggle and are on our Way to Real, lasting sustainable & ethical sharing of the world's bountiful resources.

16} These ideas and processes are offered as voluntary guidelines and are in NO WAY a requirement for any financial reward from my companies.

Cuba has a car problem, or, should I say, the lack of cars in Cuba is a real problem. A quiet voice told me recently that Cuba, if they get cars on the regular market, regular new cars such as Volvo's, Nissan's, Ford's, & Cadillac's the world markets will literally close in on itself and cause Cuba to look like an economic champion like Japan was before it's awful earth quake a few years ago, or last year. World markets will be in trouble because they are often based on people buying and purchasing and trading foreign currencies instead of investing in infrastructure that helps employ people and helps effectively improve world economies--especially in the West. You heard it here.  This is why the U.S. Trade embargo against Cuba exist--to keep channeling money into currency exchanges as opposed to investing Capital in the little working guy and helping small businesses and help in raising wages and expanding jobs. You heard it here first. But don't quote me because my critics keep saying I don't know what I'm talking about.  They see someone who doesn't have money yet and they say ``Hay if He is so smart how come He doesn't have any money, yet?'' To that I say remember the example Master of the Boxing trainer Angelo Dundee. He was fat and out of shape, but He really know what He was doing in the training and advice He gave Muhammad Ali. He was an extraordinary trainer, but out of shape Himself. A lesson I learned by sitting back and watching. The Wisdom Seeker...

Atiya once catered an event for me last year and EVERYBODY LOVED THE RAW FOOD--even people who had not tried it before!!! She comes highly recommended...

** Late addition: recently I had Her Black Bean soup and a salmon salad and chocolate cake. You are talking about something really great. I also get a great deal of wisdom when I visit Atya Ola's because many very smart Black people like to stop by for a meal and talk.
