A Film Review: Two Men
By Tracy Gibson
** History is to
be learned from – NOT repeated. This is the lesson behind ``Two Black Men a Week,’’ as it traces back the history of police
abuse in case-study cities like Pittsburg, Philadelphia and Los Angeles ALL in Turtle Island.
** The filmmakers
did the research and estimate that two men a week are victimized by police hurtfulness
in Turtle Island { The U.S. }. The case of Brother Eric Garner where
actual film footage showed the physically big Garner being taken down and chocked by at least three
officers of European descent who are members of the Los Angeles police force.
Before his last breath Garner told the officers ``I
can’t breathe,’’
** This statement
was quoted by National Basketball
Association { NBA } players who wore T-Shirts with the ``I CAN’T BREATHE’’
statement on it.
** One weakness
of the film is that no Black police officers or Black detectives were interviewed
for the film.
** Another case
reviewed with actual film footage with dramatic voice-over took place in
Cleveland, Ohio where a child is killed when his toy gun is mistaken for an
actual weapon.
** According to
the expert narration ``The police-whatever happens – tend to see BLACK people
as criminals, but tend to have difficulty admitting it.’’
** A highlight of
the film was an interview with Captain
Ray Lewis a Captain of European descent, who spoke frankly about His anti-abuse,
Pro - BLACK male views concerning such
controversies.
** This film,
available at the Free Library, is highly recommended. This interview is offered
to the two courageous women who have taken on truth to bring true justice to
the Philadelphia political system and true justice concerning the Way Black
people and all people are treated here in Philadelphia. They are newly elected Sheriff Rochelle Bilal; https://www.inquirer.com/news/rochelle-bilal-jewell-upset-jewel-williams-sheriff-election-primary-2019-20190522.html;
and newly elected Register of Wills Tracey Gordon https://www.philasun.com/?s=Tracey+Gordon+Register+of+Wills&search-button=Search.
I thank them for their tenacity, hard work and continuing efforts.
